Animation Blueprint graphs
Animation & riggingWrite or read back Animation Blueprint graphs as readable text you can review.
What it’s for
The editor normally shows an Animation Blueprint’s graph only as nodes on a canvas. Here your assistant can turn that graph into readable text and write text back into the graph. You can review and diff an animation graph change the same way you review code.
Ask for this when you want to know how an Animation Blueprint is wired without clicking through the graph, keep a copy of a graph before a change, or have your assistant add nodes such as blend spaces, cached poses, layered blends, linked anim layers and state machine aliases. A graph read out as text can be written back without losing anything.
For other animation work, such as tracks, montages, blend spaces, IK and retargeting, see Animation. Control Rig graphs have their own text form in Control Rig.
Limits
The text form covers the current node families end to end. If you are unsure whether something is supported, ask your assistant to read a real graph out as text first.Things you can ask
Read an Animation Blueprint graph as text
Your assistant reads the graph out so you can see how it is wired.
You: Show me how ABP_Mannequin's anim graph is wired.
Here is ABP_Mannequin's anim graph as text. It starts from a blend space and feeds the output pose.Add nodes to an Animation Blueprint
The new nodes go into the graph, and the asset is marked to save.
You: Add a locomotion blend space to ABP_Mannequin's anim graph.
Added the blend space to ABP_Mannequin. It compiles, and the asset is marked to save.Replace a graph with an edited version
Your assistant reads the graph out, applies your edits and writes it back over the original.
You: Replace the anim graph in ABP_Enemy with my edited version.
Replaced ABP_Enemy's anim graph with your version and laid out the new nodes. It compiles.
