Rendering & look
12 operationsrender

Take exact-size screenshots of asset previews, the level viewport or render targets.

What it’s for

Ask your assistant for a picture of something in your project and it saves a PNG at the exact size you name. It can photograph an asset in its preview window, shoot the level you have open, or set up a render target for you to draw into.

Use it when a decision depends on how something looks. Check that a static mesh reads the way you expect, get a product shot of an asset without placing it in a level, or have your assistant capture the level from a set camera to review a change it just made. Because every shot has a fixed size, before and after shots are easy to compare.

A preview shot does not spawn anything or change your level. A level shot uses the editor viewport you already have open, so you do not need to start Play-In-Editor.

Things you can ask

Photograph a static mesh without placing it

You get an exact-size image of the asset from its preview window.

You: Grab a 1024x768 product shot of the Cube static mesh.

Saved cube_product.png at 1024x768 from the asset preview. Nothing was placed in your level.

Screenshot the level from a set camera

You get a shot of the open level at the size and angle you asked for.

You: Screenshot the open level at 1920x1080, looking down from the north camera.

Saved level_camera.png at 1920x1080 from that camera position.

Create a render target

You get a new render target asset at the size and folder you want.

examplerender
You: Create a 512x512 render target called RT_Mirror.

Created /Game/RenderTargets/RT_Mirror at 512x512.
